CSU, Cody’s Race, etc.

Sorry for the lack of posting. I’ve been busy and what not. So anyway, I’ll try to keep this short because I have other things I should be doing.

My pinky still hurts and I think I might have broken it. Stupid potholes.

Fort Collins, CO is awesome. I’m really excited about moving out there. Training will be awesome.

Rist Canyon is a pretty sweet climb. 10 miles and 3500feet of elevation gain. Wish I had a 12-27 for some of the spots as I was going 4mph.

Met the CSU coach. He was nice and excited about me coming out there.

Raced on Sunday at the CSU Oval Crit. and got 3rd in the Women’s 1/2/3. It was a small field, sort of like the local scene here. The only difference was that 8 of the 12 or so riders were from the same team (Rio Grande). Of course they were doing the normal team tactic thing and constantly attacking. I had to cover probably 3/4 of them because none of the other lone rangers wanted to. After awhile I got into a rhythm and it was no problem. I got boxed in coming out of the last corner. Who knows if I could have pulled off a win. 3rd is good enough for me :) .

Oh, I raced last Sunday too at the Cody’s Race in Park View. Finished 25th overall in the mass start field of 50something. Won the Women’s open. Thought I was in for a treat on my Colorado trip since the climbing during the race smoked me.

This weekend is Altoona weekend. I have to work on Saturday so no road race. Not a problem though. Probably will head up for the criterium. Sort of depends what else there is going on. I haven’t really checked my schedule.

Loving the weather. Warmness and sun = lots of miles.

The group ride tonight was fun. Actually had a decent sized group (more than 8). I was pretty tired by the end. Before the ride I did a few miles, including some hills. Ended up with over 70 for the day. I love Tuesday’s and Thursday’s.

That’s all I can think of for now. I’ll post some pictures from last week eventually. Have a good one!

Edit:

I just remembered something.

Supposibly I am going to be receiving this frameset by Friday. Sweet! Now I’m going to have to figure out what to do for components on my Cannondale.

Clocks

I’m happy we got to set our clocks an our ahead last Saturday night. Now I get to ride after I get off work. The miles are pouring in. I’m getting excited for next week. I leave Monday for Colorado. Should be a good time. Might do a race this weekend. I’ll be crunched for time, so we will see. Have a good night!

Pot Holes

So as I was riding yesterday, I did something to my little pinky. Here’s how it happened. Nick and I were out for a ride and I was behind him. I decided to move out from behind him and all of a sudden there was a huge pot hole. I hit it at probably 22-23mph. For some reason, my pinky started hurting. I either jammed it, sprained it, or broke it. Whichever it is, it’s hurting pretty bad. It’s really swollen (as you can see in the picture) and starting to turn a bunch of different colors. Fortunantly I can still ride my bike. I just have to take my hand of the handlebar when I go over bumps. When we got done riding, I noticed my front tire was slightly deflated. I woke up this morning and it was flat. Stupid pot holes!

In other news…here’s some pictures of a bush in my backyard from the ice storm that hit us a two weekends ago.

I heard we got around 1.5″ of ice. No wonder the power lines were down all over the place. After the ice cleared, it looked like a tornado had gone through the county. There’s still branches all over the place.

While I was out of power, I got bored and took some pictures.
Maggie was bored too.
Shopper sleeping like always.

The temps are starting to warm up. Looks like next week is supposed to be in the 50’s. Just in time for the start of Tues/Thurs group rides. That’s all for now! Good night!

Froze Toes

This past weekend I raced in Columbia, MO at the Froze Toes Road Race. Temperatures were in the 40’s with winds between 15-25. There were only 4 women in the Women’s Open field…bummer. It consisted of two riders from Mercy (not ICCC), Emilie Duchow (Mesa Cycles), and myself. It was a fun race though. We really didn’t do much, just basically rode together as a group. Towards the end of the race things started to heat up. The last 1/2 the race was headwind, so we rotated fairly smoothly. I started to get tired during the hilly section. This course is pretty flat with some rollers. The headwind made the rollers seem huge. I was able to stick with the group until a little past the last turn. I really have no excuse for getting dropped. Two girls from Mercy (not ICCC) started pulling pretty hard and I couldn’t stay on their wheel. They duked it out for the finish, I’m not sure who won. I came in 3rd, not too far behind. I misjudged how far it was until the finish. Who knows if I could have stuck with them. I sort of got a second wind (or maybe it was just a tail wind) and got my speed up pretty high, but didn’t make any ground on the two riders ahead of me. It was a good experience and training race. I know where I am as far as fitness level now. Next up is possibly the Cody’s Race on March 18th. Then it’s the CSU road race and criterium in Fort Collins, CO on March 24-25. Yes, you know what that means. No Kent Park for me :( . Have a good day!
