Wow….check out today’s article on VeloNews.
“Today I’m ending my career as a professional cyclist. I never once cheated as a cyclist,” said Jan Ullrich, who called the press conference in Hamburg to discuss his future. “I still don’t understand why I was not allowed to compete in the Tour last year.”
Now who do you think is going to finish well in the Tour de France?
Doping allegations lead to retirement. Why can’t this sport just be clean?

You know what sucks? Being without electricity for going on 48 hours now. The ice storm that hit us Saturday did a number on the region. I’ve seen 3 power line poles still snapped in half as of today. I know the electric company is doing there best. Burlington and most of the surrounding towns all have power. I suppose that’s what I get for living out in the boondocks ey? Fortunantly we have running hot water, a fire place, and a small generator. I’m starting to get accustomed to not turning on the lights when I go into a room. My dad hooked up the generator yesterday so we were able to watch TV, run the furnace, and plug in the refrigerator. I’ve heard rumors that the earliest we will get power back is tomorrow (Tuesday) and the latest Thursday.
In other news, good news, Jason McCartney rapped up 3rd overall. That’s pretty sweet. I was able to watch some of the last stage lastnight. It was pretty uneventful. A break-away stayed off for most of the race and got caught at the end.
Froze Toes was rescheduled for this coming weekend (March 4th). Hopefully the weather cooperates. There’s supposed to be another storm moving later on this week so cross your fingers that it’s gone before Sunday. That’s all, time to go back to class. Have a good day!

Wow…today’s stage was awesome. Tom Zirbel had an awesome time and set the bar high for the first part of the race. Then Cancellara (world TT champion) came along. After that it was Jason McCartney, who set the bar really high at 30′05. Awesome ride, it was amazing! To top it all off, Leipheimer and Voight were neck in neck. It was pretty intense. Levi took the stage with a time of 29′40. This stage moved Jason into 3rd place OVERALL!!! 54 seconds behind the leader and 33 seconds behind 2nd place. Two stages are left. I’m anxious to see what happens.
In other news, winter sucks. I wish it would go away. Bye!

I’m loving this weather. I just wish it was going to stay nice through this weekend. Not sure if I’ll be heading to Columbia Sunday or not. Depends if it’s supposed to snow or not. The temperature high keeps dropping. Not sure it’s worth the 3.5 hour drive. Right now this is what the weather looks like:
Sun. Feb. 25
Few Snow Showers / Wind
30% Precipitation
40°high/29°low
(from velonews.com)
I imagine most of you reading this blog have been keeping up with the Tour of California. So how about yesterday’s race (Stage 3)?? That was pretty sweet. I didn’t realize Jason McCartney was in the break until near the end of the race when they announced it. Pretty cool. He moved up to 20th in the G.C. It was awesome to see Chris Horner finish 3rd and move up in the G.C. to 4th. I have to admit, it’s pretty impressive what Discovery does. They control the entire race. Sure it might not be exciting, but you got to admit that it’s pretty talented.

Have you noticed Hincappie’s bike???
Need a new (well used, but new to you) mountain bike? Leave me a comment…I’m looking to sell/upgrade. That’s all for now. Get outside while you can, it’s not going to last much longer!! Later.

Today was the Daytona 500. I watched the last three laps, and they were pretty interesting. Kevin Harvick won. I’m not as big of a NASCAR fan as I used to be. I used to watch the races every Sunday. That sort of went away when I started racing. I wasn’t home on Sunday’s so just followed up on who won the race on the internet or through word of mouth. I used to be a huge Jeff Gordon fan and even have some of the model car collectibles. One year for my birthday, I had a Jeff Gordon car cake. I’m still a Gordon fan, just not as big. I just found out today that he was married and had a little girl on the way…shows what kind of fan I am! NASCAR is sort of like a road race. It doesn’t really get exciting until the end. You get a few crashes during the race, and sometimes at the end in the sprint (or in the Daytona 500, today’s wreck on the last lap). Ok enough NASCAR talk.
The Tour of California started today. I still think it’s awkward that the major sponsor (Amgen) makes EPO. Jason Donald opened a lot of people’s eyes. He held the lead in the Prologue (1.9 miles long) with a time of 4:50.497 until Levi Leipheimer rode a 4:49.050. I have never heard of Jason Donald before until today. Bobby Julich rode a 5:03.221 for 20th place. This guy rides oval chainrings. Chris Horner rode a 5:03.??? Not bad for not being a TT specialist. I haven’t found the full results yet so I am not sure where Jason McCartney or Tom Zirbel finished.
Today was a pretty nice day. Even though it was only 30 degrees, the sun and no wind made it feel warmer. I figured out today that I like riding around aimlessly on gravel roads, not knowing where you are. This is especially fun in the timber (helps block the breeze). Time to log the outdoor miles, especially if I’m going to this —> race.
Spring Break is right around the corner. I’m planning a trip to Colorado to do some exploring. Should be a good time with some good riding. I might even do a race out there. That’s all I got for now. Good night!
